    CNIPA Deputy Commissioner Meets Deputy Director General of IP Viet Nam in Beijing

    On June 17, Lu Pengqi, Deputy Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), met in Beijing with Tran Le Hong, Deputy Director General of the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam) and his delegation, who were participating in the CNIPA-IP Viet Nam Training Workshop on Geographical Indications. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in the field of geographical indications and under the framework of the Belt and Road initiative.

    From May 23 to 28, the 7th Digital China Summit, jointly hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Data Administration, the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. In the Guangdong exhibition area, the Guangdong Intellectual Property Protection Center's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Intellectual Property Big Data Comprehensive Service Platform project (https://www.gpic.gd.cn/) was showcased as the only intellectual property-related digital project at the exhibition.

    2024 Meeting of IP5 Deputy Heads of Office Held via Video Conference

    The 2024 Meeting of IP5 Deputy Heads of Office was held via video conference recently. The meeting was hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) who held this year's presidency, with Lu Pengqi, Deputy Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), leading the Chinese delegation. The meeting was chaired by Kim Shi-Hyeong, Vice Commissioner of the KIPO with Christoph Ernst, Vice President of the the European Patent Office (EPO), Katsura Masanori, Deputy Commissioner of the Japanese Patent Office (JPO), and Valencia Martin Wallace, Deputy Commissioner of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) leading delegations respectively. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also sent representatives to the meeting as observers.

    CNIPA Announces Joining Patent Prosecution Highway Improvement Initiative

    In a bid to further enhance the user experience of the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has announced joining the "PPH Improvement Initiative", which involves cooperation between the world's five leading intellectual property (IP) offices, namely China, the United States, Europe, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The objective of this initiative is to strive for an average duration of 3 months both from the grant of a PPH request to issuance of a first office action and for an average response time from examiner to applicant, thereby providing PPH users with a more predictable examination cycle.

    IPR at China's "Two Sessions": Strengthen IPR Protection, Effectively Support Comprehensive Innovation

    At this year's China's "two sessions", namely annual sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the proposals of deputies and members were emphatic: with the public release of the Implementing Regulations of the Patent Law, the protection of pharmaceutical innovations has become more certain; there have been new breakthroughs in the judicial application of data intellectual property rights (IPRs), and data market participants are eager to try out these new developments. This year's government work report mentioned the need to "bolster intellectual property rights protection" again. Deputies and members actively offered suggestions and proposals to advocate for IPR protection, effectively supporting comprehensive innovation and aiding in high-quality development.
