    China Ranks First in Microorganism Patents

    The World Data Center for Microorganisms (WDCM) and the Center for Microbial Resources and Big Data of the Institute of Microbiology of Chinese Academy of Science (IMCAS) jointly released the 2016 Microbial Resource Development Report for China (hereinafter abbreviated as “Report”) on Sept. 6. According to the Report, China achieved significant progress in research on microbial resources from 2001 to 2015. Globally, China ranks first in the number of patents (patent families) and is second only to the United States in the number of papers in the field of microorganism, and it began to own the largest number of published patents (patent families) in the field of microorganism as from 2009.

    Regulations on Reducing Patent Fees to Come into Force on September 1st

    The regulations on Reducing Patent Fees jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance and National Development and Reform Commission would come into force on September 1st this year. According to the roughly calculation by the Ministry of Finance, the patent fee would be reduced by about 4.1 billion yuan every year after implementation of the opinion.

    China’s First IPR Operation Platform for University Initiates

    In recent years, Chinese universities have faced generally great difficulties in commercialization of S&T discoveries, lacking of ways of operating, balance between S&T input and output and low commercialization rate.     Notification on Instant Publication of Decisions on Invalidation Cases by the Patent Reexamination Board of SIPO

    Shen Changyu Led a Delegation to Attend the 55th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO

    On October 5th, local time, the 55th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) opened in Geneva, Switzerland. Shen Changyu, Director of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, led the government delegation of the People's Republic of China to attend the meeting. Wu Hailong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Mission in Geneva, attended the meeting. The Chinese government delegation is composed of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (National Copyright Administration), the State Intellectual Property Office, the Permanent Mission in Geneva and the Intellectual Property Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China.
